Siller Pollinator Company
Siller and team getting down to business.
Date Funded: September, 2021
Siller Pollinator Company was founded in 2019 with the intention of helping people help pollinators. Operating primarily as a honeybee hive management service for its first few years, SPC has grown to include a retail space and a quickly growing pollinator habitat development enterprise. They have forged exciting new partnerships with utility scale solar companies across Virginia, collaborating to directly transform solar sites into pollinator habitat or to facilitate partnerships between utilities and rotational sheep grazers. With the goal of improving stewardship and creating land access opportunities for small farmers, SPC is actively advancing agrivoltaics in Virginia while reducing the need for mowing and herbicide use on solar sites.
In just a few short years, SPC has seen incredible growth. Foodshed Capital has played a central role in their journey, having supported them over the years with four separate loans to add staff, purchase equipment, support partnership with a local meade company, and outfit a mobile processing trailer that can be used by beekeepers across the state to process and sell more honey. This long-term financial partnership is fundamental to our mission—helping small operations at the foundation of the foodshed grow into thriving, growing businesses.
