Redd Cabbage Farm
Richmond, VA
0% interest bridge loan funded February 2025
Dwayne Jones started Redd Cabbage Farms on his three acre property just outside Richmond, VA in 2020, growing a kitchen garden and raising laying hens. In the years since, his operation has grown into a setting for people to find healthier food options as well as learn about farming and experience the natural world.
In 2024, Dwayne participated in the Central Virginia Urban Farm Fellowship, a training program facilitated by another FoodCap borrower, Happily Natural Day. The fellowship set him up to expand his farm business and make a greater impact on his community. While his farm remains a solo effort, Dwayne says the ongoing support he's received from the Fellowship family has been a huge asset.
By practicing no-till cultivation, planting cover crops, and using chicken tractors to clear weeds and feed the soil, Redd Cabbage Farms is prioritizing soil health. They also sustain areas of native plant habitat to encourage pollinators and biodiversity. A 2025 EQIP high tunnel contract will bring critical season extension infrastructure to the farm, and a 0% interest bridge loan from Foodshed Capital supported the out of pocket costs of construction prior to reimbursement.
