Turnip the Beets Farm
Gladstone, VA
0% loan funded November 2019
Turnip the Beets Farm is run by husband-and-wife team Shane and Beverly Spanninger. The 8-acre farm is located in Nelson County, Virginia and produces vegetables and flowers using ecologically sustainable practices. The Spanningers started Turnip the Beets Farm on their property along the James River in 2013 and they have been selling at farmers markets in the area ever since. The farm received a 0% SOIL loan in November 2019 to help them purchase bulk amounts of ground cloth as a reusable weed barrier. This will save them substantial time weeding and reduce the environmental impact of using disposable plastic every year.
