Renew Richmond is an organization devoted to using agriculture to empower young people to build healthy, equitable, and sustainable communities in underserved neighborhoods through greater Richmon, Virginia. For going on six years, they have been engaging local youth with hands-on, skills-based immersion in agriculture, STEM, and environmental sustainability on 1.5 acres of urban land through their Farmstrong Community Farm Project. The food they grow goes back to the community, providing fresh, nutritious food to the areas that need it most. Their FoodCap loan, together with a grant from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, will allow them to finally purchase the parcel of land they have lovingly tended, and give them the freedom to inest more deeply in programs going forward.
