Purple Mockingbird Farm, located in Appomattox, Virginia, was started by Dara and Byron Burns in early 2021. The 60-acre operation is dedicated to raising livestock using regenerative practices. The farm received a 0% loan in February 2021 to help install perimeter fencing on the property, and to cover the costs of business consulting to help get the farm established. The farm received a second low-interest loan in May 2021 to help pay for new equipment. Purple Mockingbird is a pilot participant in our Common Wealth Partnership, which works to increase increase holistically managed acreage and improve soil health in the region.
