Finca la Maravilla

Guayanilla, Puerto Rico

0% interest loan funded February 2025

Finca La Maravilla is a diversified tropical produce and sheep farm owned by Jilson Ferrer. Referred to us through a partnership with Monte Azul Foundation, we were proud to support in their goal to respond to the egg shortage in Puerto Rico. Given their experience with both livestock production and crop cultivation, Finca La Maravilla was confident in their ability to develop a sustainable new revenue stream by adding eggs to their operation.

A 0% interest micro-loan from Foodshed Capital allowed Finca La Maravilla to purchase electric fencing, expand their poultry housing, and purchase feed in bulk to reduce cost.

This loan followed a May 2025 visit by FoodCap staff to Puerto Rico, where we met partner farmers, expanded our understanding of regenerative practices in a tropical climate, and gained insight into the challenges and opportunities Puerto Rican farmers face as a U.S. territory vulnerable to extreme weather.
