DEEP ROOTS MILLING

Operating at a historic multi-story grain mill built in 1790, millers Charlie Wade, Aaron Grigsby, and Ian Gamble produce high quality flours from responsibly-sourced, regionally produced grains. They're also members of the Common Grain Alliance, a group of farmers, millers, bakers, and brewers working to build an equitable and sustainable mid-Atlantic grain economy. FoodCap supported Deep Roots with a low-interest loan in July of 2021 to hlep them purchase larger quantities of their annual grain supply up front. This infusion of cash flow is a double win, allowing them to better plan their supply while also giving them more flexibility to purchase grains when farmers have a crop ready—particularly vital as farmers contend with a changing climate.
