Hunter is a co-founder of Foodshed Capital and served as the board Chair from 2019 to 2022. Hunter works with private investment funds, land owners and non-profits to engage private capital with conservation and ecosystem restoration. Prior to his investing work, he started several local food businesses and most recently was the Special Projects Manager for Ellwood Thompson’s Local Market, an independent natural food retailer in Richmond, Virginia with a focus on supporting local economies and agriculture.
Hunter began his career as a research analyst for Canal Capital Management before starting Harvest Grocery & Supply, a micro-grocery in Richmond. Harvest eventually merged with JM Stock Provisions in Charlottesville, where he became a partner in the whole-animal butchery. Hunter holds a degree in Economics from Hampden-Sydney, a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Goldman Sachs 10k Small Businesses Program at Babson College, and an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. He lives in Richmond with his wife and daugther.
